Glossary

Understand the customer-facing terms used for workspaces, resources, fields, contexts, and Views.

Workspaces and access

TermMeaning
OrganizationThe platform-managed navigation root above Teams; not a customer role-assignment scope.
TeamAn independent workspace and access boundary containing Spaces.
SpaceA container for Projects inside a Team.
ProjectThe data workspace containing resources, properties, snapshots, conditions, Layers, and Views.
Direct roleA role explicitly assigned at a particular scope.
Inherited roleAccess received from an ancestor workspace. A lower-level grant can elevate, not reduce, it.
Effective roleThe strongest applicable access from direct and inherited assignments.
ViewerRead access to permitted data and calculated Views.
AnalystViewer access plus management of saved Views they created.
EditorProject data authoring, or permitted contextual authoring when assigned only to a Layer.
ManagerSpace/Project administration, Layer management, and member grants up to Editor.
AdminTeam administration and grants up to Admin; Project timeline administration.
OwnerOwnership administration, Owner grants/transfer, and Team deletion.
Path accessVisibility of the ancestors needed to navigate to a permitted Project or Layer, not access to their other contents.
InvitationAn access grant sent to an email address. Pending links expire and are replaced on resend.

See Workspace and Getting started.

Resources and relationships

TermMeaning
ResourceA named structural or data-bearing item in the Project tree.
Resource groupA structural resource without a Class at or above it; cannot own Fields or snapshots.
ClassThe explicitly designated data-bearing branch root, at any depth. A completed branch has exactly one.
Value groupA descendant of a Class that has children.
Value (resource)A leaf resource below a Class, such as Northland or Aster Mini in the planned demo.
Canonical resource / originalThe resource at its own structural location, where its data is authored.
OccurrenceOne displayed location of a resource; the same original may also occur through links.
Linked resourceA read-only contextual membership under another resource in the same Project, without copying or moving the original.
Current selectionLinked membership captured once; not a time snapshot.
Keep updatedLinked membership recalculated from a selector as the tree changes, with explicit removal exclusions.
AliasA canonical leaf bound to exactly one property, used as that property in data-definition contexts. It remains a resource in structural contexts.
Inactive resourceRetained authored data excluded from active references/calculations; not a deleted item.
Selector scopeThe selected resource, children, descendants, or descendant leaves to include in a structural selection.

Category is not a required resource kind in the current UI. Do not insert a separate Category merely because an older description used that term. See Resources.

Fields and context

TermMeaning
Property / fieldA definition assigned to a data-owning resource, with values in snapshots. Fields is the Details section containing property cards.
Property familyThe shared project-wide definition behind repeated property labels; assignments share its type signature, not their values.
Property assignment / occurrenceOne resource's use of a family. Removing it removes that resource's associated values and conditions, not every assignment elsewhere.
Value (field data)The content of a property in one snapshot, such as a price or a date. Distinct from a Value resource.
Value propertyA plain typed field, such as Text, Currency, Date, or File.
Reference propertyA field selecting active Value groups or Values below an anchor Class.
Reference Class / anchorThe Class defining the eligible branch for a Reference property; the Class itself is not a target.
MultiplicityWhether a property supports one entry or multiple entries. Value datatypes constrain this choice.
DefaultStarting field data before matching condition overrides; contextual when a Layer is active.
Unset / emptyA present value with no content, not necessarily a missing property or unavailable period.
ConditionA rule-controlled override of a field value or references.
Child conditionAn override that also depends on its parent's rule.
ReplaceA reference override replacing the accumulated reference set.
ChangeA reference override adding to or subtracting from the accumulated reference set.
Condition list / fanned valuesExplicit generated contextual condition rows for selected resources, not a continuously growing list.
LayerA shared Project context with a rule and optional resource visibility restriction; only one is active.
All dataThe neutral context for Project members, without an active Layer. Not available to Layer-only members.
SnapshotA labelled applicability period containing a resource's field data.
Project timelineCentrally administered periods followed by resources in Project timeline mode.
Local timelineA resource's independently editable snapshot timeline.
As of dateThe time used to calculate a View; not the same as manually choosing a Details snapshot.

See Properties, Conditions, Layers, Snapshots, and Files.

Presentations and operation states

TermMeaning
Normal modeResource navigation, summaries, adding/removal, and property-family entries.
Edit modeResource checkbox selection, bulk General editing, and movement.
Table modeBrowser-local resource/property authoring grid; not a saved Table View.
Saved ViewA stored Project presentation with its own configuration and immutable type.
Table ViewA calculated comparison using configured axes and cell content.
Onepager ViewAn A4 landscape layout of configurable resource-list boxes.
Timeline ViewA time-based presentation of resource or temporal-property items.
Details sourceWhether Details follows the Resources selection or the View selection.
DraftAn input change not yet submitted with its applicable Save action.
PendingAn operation still being saved or reconciled; not confirmation of success.
SavedFooter state with no tracked pending write and current connectivity; does not submit drafts.
UndoOne latest supported successful transaction in the current browser tab, subject to conflict and permission checks. Not a history or Redo.
