Files

Upload, save, download, and remove File-property attachments within the supported limits.

Files are attachments in a File Value property. They belong to the Project and can be used in resource snapshot defaults or conditional values. There is no standalone customer file-library management screen in the verified UI.

As an optional exercise extending the fictional Product Atlas demo, add a Brief File property to Aster Mini and attach a fictional PDF product brief. The fixture itself does not supply this property or an attachment, and this guide does not upload a sample file.

Access requirements

Uploading and deleting stored files require Editor or higher Project access. Downloading requires Viewer or higher Project access. Layer-only membership does not currently authorize file delivery or upload, even if a Layer exposes file metadata or a File value.

Linked-resource Details are read-only. Open the original resource to change its attachment value when your Project role permits it. File cells in resource Table mode are read-only; use Details instead.

Supported files and limits

LimitCurrent support
TypesPDF; modern Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx); plain text; CSV; GIF, JPEG, PNG, and WebP images.
Files per uploadUp to 10.
Size per fileUp to 25 MiB (26,214,400 bytes).
Combined file size per uploadUp to 100 MiB (104,857,600 bytes).
FilenameNonempty, up to 255 characters, without control characters.

The upload checks the supplied file type, not just the extension. HTML, SVG, JavaScript, unknown binary types, and types outside the allowlist are rejected. Renaming an unsupported file does not make it a supported document. Older Office formats, archives, audio, and video are not in the current allowed set. Deployment request limits may also reject a transfer.

Upload and save an attachment

  1. Select the canonical resource and intended snapshot in Details.
  2. Add a Value property with datatype File, or expand an existing File property.
  3. Under Default, choose Select files and select supported local files. For a conditional attachment, use that condition's File input instead.
  4. Wait for Uploading files to finish. Resolve any upload error before continuing.
  5. Select Details Save to persist the attachment value.
  6. Recheck the field after saving and confirm that the expected filenames are listed.

Upload transfers the files; it does not by itself save the property draft. The current editor sets the attachment draft to the newly uploaded batch rather than automatically appending it to the previous list. Before replacing a batch, check which existing attachments you still need. The UI does not provide a general picker for reattaching arbitrary previously stored files.

The selected snapshot and condition determine where the attachment value is saved. With a Layer active, contextual value edits follow Layer rules; they do not automatically replace the global default. See Properties and Conditions.

Download a file

Select the filename link in the stored attachment list. The browser opens the download request in a new tab and receives the file as an attachment. A file size is shown when available.

This is a download workflow, not an embedded document or image viewer. A copied download address is not a public sharing link and does not grant another person access. The recipient must be signed in with the required Project access.

Remove an attachment

  1. In the correct File value, select Remove file beside the stored filename.
  2. Check the remaining attachment draft.
  3. Select Details Save to persist the changed list.

This removes the attachment from that value. It is not proof that the stored file has been physically deleted. Saving an attachment removal does not guarantee physical cleanup, and a file still used by another saved value or condition cannot be physically deleted.

There is no verified customer control to browse unused stored files or force-delete them. Ask your administrator/support contact when physical removal is required. Do not assume file replacement, property removal, resource deletion, or Undo provides a file version history or a guaranteed storage cleanup workflow.

Search and limitations

Global search can find permitted file metadata. It does not search the text inside uploaded files. Selecting a file result opens its Project; it does not automatically download the file or focus a specific attachment. Navigate to the owning resource and snapshot to use its filename link.

The verified UI does not provide public download links, attachment version history, a trash/restore browser, image embedding in formatted text, or File editing in the resource grid.

For upload failures, check type, size, count, filename, connectivity, and your Project role. After an interrupted save, inspect the actual saved attachment list before uploading again. See Troubleshooting.
